Makadara principal magistrate Monica Kivuti shot by a police officer cried for her life during the shooting incident.

The late Makadara principal magistrate Monica Kivuti endured horror at the hands of a police officer who shot her during the court session.

Magistrate Kivuti was shot multiple times on Thursday, June 13, at the Makadara Law Courts by Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir.

This was after the magistrate’s decision to cancel his wife’s bond and deny her cash bail.

His wife was accused of obtaining KSh 2.9 million by false pretense.

Speaking of the incident, an insider revealed that the magistrate was on the bench, oblivious of the imminent attack.

The killer officer had sought an audience with her to no avail. “He actually wanted an audience with the court, the prosecutor denied him because he wasn’t the accused nor the investigating officer,” the source said on anonymity condition.

On seeing his efforts proving futile, he successfully strived to force entry via the magistrate’s entrance area in the rear of the court after bypassing the source and an unarmed orderly.

At this moment, his intentions were clear; he set out for Kivuti targeting the head.

Alive to the situation, the terrified magistrate sought refuge under a table as Kipchirchir started opening fire.

The table would unluckily do less to cover her, with the determined shooter firing numerous rounds.

“The shooter was going for her head, but she hid under the table. He sprayed a lot of bullets on her so I suppose it’s more than one bullet on the abdomen and chest area,” the source added.

The source could recall Kivuti’s last words while on the receiving end. “Madam’s last words were, “Mama yangu, nakufa leo (My mother, I am dying today).”

Chief Justice Martha Koome confirmed Kivuti’s passing on Saturday, June 15.

She had been admitted to The Nairobi Hospital, where she succumbed to the gunshot injuries.

The death occurred moments after she had requested a blood donation through her caregivers.
