Ireland issues travel advisory for Kenya amid floods crisis just days after another warning by the US and UK

Ireland issues travel advisory for Kenya amid floods crisis just days after another warning by the US and UK.

The Republic of Ireland warned its residents who planned to visit Kenya on Saturday to exercise extreme caution due to the country’s flooding.

The European Island issued an advisory warning that Kenya was experiencing severe rains and substantial floods, including in tourist-friendly places such as national parks.

The Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended its Kenyan nationals follow news and public guidance and take any required measures when planning their movements.

Irish nationals contemplating a trip to Kenya were encouraged to consult travel firms, lodging, and transportation providers before beginning their excursion.

“The public emergency services contact in Kenya is 999 and the Embassy’s contact details can be found under the Embassy contact section,” read part of the travel advisory.

Similarly, the country encouraged its residents traveling to Kenya to exercise caution because terrorism was common in Kenya.

According to the Irish Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Al Shabaab terrorist group has already carried out attacks in Kenya, particularly in Nairobi, and has promised more assaults.

“As a result, Irish citizens in Kenya are urged to exercise extreme vigilance and caution, particularly in public places including hotels, bars and restaurants, sporting events, supermarkets, shopping centres, and beach resorts,” the Irish Foreign Affairs Ministry warned.

This comes only three days after the United Kingdom issued a similar travel caution to nationals planning trips to Kenya.

Following the present flooding caused by heavy rains in Kenya, the UK government has cautioned its people to exercise caution when visiting the country.

“Avoid walking, swimming, or driving through floodwater, plan your journeys carefully and make sure to follow local guidance,” the advisory read in part.
