Israel Defense Forces orders ordered a “complete siege” on the Gaza Strip vowing to use "enormous force" on Hamas

Israel Defense Forces orders ordered a “complete siege” on the Gaza Strip vowing to use “enormous force” on Hamas.

Israel will use “enormous force” against the Hamas militant group, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned.

Speaking to officials on Monday, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly said that “what Hamas will experience will be difficult and terrible”.

He added: “This is only the beginning… we are all with you and we will defeat them with force, enormous force”.

Speaking to local mayors on Israel’s southern border earlier, Netanyahu said the country’s response would “change the Middle East”.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant had earlier said authorities would cut electricity and block the entry of food and fuel as part of “a complete siege” on Hamas-run Gaza, where about 2.3 million people live in one of the most densely populated areas in the world.

The Israeli blockade of the occupied Gaza Strip, in its current form, has been in place since June 2007. Israel controls Gaza’s airspace and territorial waters, as well as two of the three border crossing points; the third is controlled by Egypt.

“We are putting a complete siege on Gaza … No electricity, no food, no water, no gas – it’s all closed,” Gallant said in a video statement.

More than 700 people have been killed in Israel since Saturday’s surprise attack, including 260 people massacred by Hamas gunmen at a music festival.

Since Israel began striking Gaza in response, nearly 600 people have died.

Earlier, Hamas spokesperson Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua told The Associated Press news agency that the group’s fighters continued to battle outside Gaza and had captured more Israelis as recently as Monday morning.

He said the group aims to free all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, which in the past has agreed to lopsided exchange deals in which it released large numbers of prisoners for individual captives or even the remains of soldiers.

Meanwhile, as reports of tensions at the Lebanese-Israeli border intensify, Palestinian groups in Lebanon say they are eager to start a new front against Israel if Hezbollah leads the charge.

While the prospect of Lebanon joining the conflict is a very realistic possibility, if it does so, it would drag the region into a catastrophic war.

Mohanad Hage Ali of the Carnegie Middle East Center said: “I think the Israeli response [to any attack from Lebanon] would be of a different magnitude.”
