Orengo has been a fierce critic of the president due to his opposition to the broad-based arrangement and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Linda Ground team led by Senator Oburu Oginga.
He has consistently accused the Linda Ground team of betraying party principles and failing to uphold the legacy of the late former party leader Raila Odinga.
On Tuesday, March 24, Ruto and the governor attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the KSh 1 billion Usenge Pier in Bondo Constituency.
The head of state stated that the project is an important step in expanding maritime infrastructure and unlocking new opportunities in fishing, transport, and regional trade.
“We are investing KSh 9.5 billion to strengthen blue economy activities along Lake Victoria, consequently creating jobs and improving livelihoods for the residents of the lake region,” Ruto said.
Ruto also stated that the government will establish a fishermen’s rescue centre in Siaya at a cost of KSh 250 million, procure rescue boats worth KSh 70 million, and invest another KSh 70 million in fish cages to support safety, boost aquaculture, and increase productivity.

Speaking at the event, which various leaders attended, Orengo welcomed Ruto to the county and encouraged him to visit Siaya residents regularly.
“We have welcomed you to Siaya. Keep coming. Personally, I play my own politics.
The governor, aligned with the ODM Linda Mwananchi brigade, has been on the front line of pushing for Ruto’s removal in the upcoming general election.
In response to his remarks, Ruto revealed that they had agreed that Kenyans would decide the outcome of the 2027 elections.
“We have come into agreement with Orengo that we work for Kenyans. Tutam and Wantam will be a decision of the people,” he said.
The president has recently initiated several development projects in the Nyanza region, citing past marginalisation and the need for equitable national development.
