Jubilee threatens to leave Azimio over a clash with ODM

Jubilee of Uhuru threatens to leave Azimio la Umoja coalition over a clash with Raila Odinga’s ODM party.

On November 10, a group of lawmakers connected to the Jubilee Party threatened to leave the Azimio alliance due to disdain from the Orange Democratic Party.

According to the legislators, led by Nominated MP Sabina Chege, Jubilee had the raw deal when it came to splitting the positions available on the Parliamentary Service Commission with the opposition group.

She objected to a last-minute change made to the list of candidates for the Parliamentary Service Commission that saw Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni of ODM replace Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo of Jubilee.

“The decision taken by the Senate, therefore, negates the democratic space of political parties in Parliament as the net effect of the decision taken by the Senate rendered two slots to the Orange Democratic Movement Party,” Sabina Chege stated during a press conference.

According to Chege, Azimio la Umoja was given three slots in the powerful commission.

She said that each of the three major parties in the coalition—ODM, Wiper Democratic Movement, and Jubilee—would receive one of the three spots.

Mishi Mboko, a Likoni MP, was chosen to represent ODM, and Patrick Makau, a Mavoko legislator, was chosen to represent Wiper.

The remaining one, according to the former Murang’a Woman Representative was designated for the Jubilee Party.

Adan Keynan, an Eldas MP who was also competing for a position as a commissioner, observed that ODM had exhibited disregard towards Jubilee despite being the second-largest party in Azimio.

“What is perturbing is not who seat in PSC but we are entitled to have a representative in the commission.

We are the second biggest party in Azimio and this is not a favour, it’s our right. We are not going to be flowers girls or boys for anybody,” Keynan stated.

The members affirmed the need to convene a crisis meeting promptly between the signatory parties of the Azimio Coalition.
