Junet Mohamed is demanding a bigger share of positions in government for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed is demanding a bigger share of positions in government for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking during the ODM party condolence visit at the home of the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo on December 21, the MP called for the President to outline the positions that ODM will get before the possible 2027 coalition.
“If they want our ODM votes, they should put positions on the table and tell us the number of positions they are giving us,” Junet demanded.
The Minority Whip said that the party will issue demands in the coalition talks, dismissing claims by some members of the party who had earlier warned against blackmailing President William Ruto.
“There are some people saying that ODM should go to Ruto without conditions; that is a no,” the ODM leader said.
Junet says that despite the President giving the ODM party several Cabinet slots under the broad-based agreement and doing development projects in the ODM strong zones, the party wants more.
The MP claimed that the party is the largest political party and that it will be bringing more votes to the President, justifying his call for more positions and development from the President.

Junet, however, clarified that ODM will not join the opposition and vowed to stay in the broad-based government, but wants the President to fulfil the party’s demands.
“I want to assure you that ODM will not work with tribalists, but if Kenya Kwanza wants us to collaborate, we must talk and come to terms,” Junet revealed.
Junet’s statement comes after Kisumu Women Representative Ruth Odinga demanded more Cabinet slots and a bigger stake in the next Ruto government.
President Ruto, while attending the 5th Piny Luo, urged the ODM party to remain strong for a possible coalition in 2027 during the general elections.
The party is also demanding that President Ruto implement the 10-point agenda made during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the ruling UDA party and the ODM party.
