Junet responds on a secret audio clip linking Azimio to election rigging (AUDIO CLIP)
Junet responds on a secret audio clip released by Ruto’s associates linking Azimio to election rigging.
Azimio coalition secretary-general Junet Mohammed on Sunday, July 31, dismissed a secret audio recording linking him to election rigging plans.
The purported audio clip published by Ruto allied politicians, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also implicated a top-ranking official at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
The Suna East MP called the widely circulated recording fraudulent and doctored by political rivals in a press release issued on Sunday, July 31 in an effort to discredit him and Azimio.
He accused the rivals of using the audio to garner sympathy votes ahead of the August 9, General Election.
“Junet Mohamed urges the public to ignore the video, which appears to be one of the last desperate acts of a dying political campaign that has been based on years of lies, innuendoes, mudslinging, arrogance, chest-thumping, name-calling, insults, and now – waking up to the reality of a lost election – is on a sympathy seeking spree!
Mr. Mohamed called upon the investigative agencies to launch a probe into the audio and apprehend the culprits.
“Junet invites investigative agencies to move with speed and investigate the matter, unearth the perpetrators and bring them to the law,” he stated.
In the audio clip, Kimilili MP claimed that Junet Mohamed had organized a high-profile meeting with IEBC officials in a bid to manipulate the August 9, polls.
The MP shared an audio clip he dubbed “Part 1” claiming it was of Junet talking to an organizer of the meeting.
In the audio clip, a man Barasa says is Junet, is heard telling a yet-to-be-identified person on the other end of the phone call that he is ready for the meeting they had talked about.
The call’s recipient is overheard being told by the caller posing as Junet to invite IEBC head Wafula Chebukati, himself, and Commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye to the meeting.
Barasa, though, claims he will make a thorough statement and support for the allegations at a news conference on Monday.
“Hon. Junet Mohamed, we are following you keenly. I will address the nation tomorrow at 4 pm with details and evidence of your attempts to manipulate elections. This will include meetings with pollsters to manipulate opinion polls in favour of Raila Odinga,” the MP wrote on his Facebook page.
