Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has officially rebranded his political outfit from the Wiper Democratic Movement to the Wiper Party Front, a move he says is intended to align with the evolving political consciousness in Kenya, particularly among the youth.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday in Westlands, Nairobi, Kalonzo said the decision was driven by the need to bring a new spirit into the party and respond to the changing national mood, especially following the youth-led protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

“This is the party of the future, the party of the youth. We are taking into account the patriotic spirit of Gen Zs. The name change reflects a deeper shift in purpose and identity,” Kalonzo stated.

He noted that they felt the word “democratic” had lost its weight and meaning in today’s political climate, where young Kenyans are increasingly questioning transparency, governance, and accountability.

“We realised that using the word ‘democratic’ in the party name no longer felt the same,” he said.

“It’s used loosely, yet the country continues to face challenges in safeguarding democratic values.”

The decision to change the party’s name was endorsed by the Wiper National Executive Council, Kalonzo noted.

The leader personally received the new registration certificate from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties on Friday, whom he thanked, mentioning Registrar of Political Parties Sophia Sitati for facilitating the transition.

He said plans are underway to convene a National Delegates Congress that will outline the next steps for the movement, including preparations for fielding candidates across all levels of government.

“We are going to expand this movement to make it countrywide. This party will field candidates everywhere in the republic,” he declared.

Kalonzo also acknowledged the constitutional right of all Kenyans to affiliate with any party, but said Wiper Party Front aims to provide a new platform of patriotism and urgency for meaningful change.

“This is a call to new energy, new voices, and renewed hope,” he said.
