According to study done by Insider and published by Yahoo Finance, Kenya was ranked among the world’s 30 most dangerous nations in 2023.

Kenya came in at number 25 on the world rankings, two spots behind South Sudan, which has been waging a protracted civil war.

Each nation was ranked according to its performance in the most recent Global Peace Index, Global Terrorism Index, and average homicide rate.

Kenya ranked 34 on the global peace index and 20 on the terrorist index.

As indicated by Insider, Kenya boasted a lower per capita homicide rate compared to the majority of countries within the top 30, with a ranking of 117.

“Terrorist deaths because of attacks by Al-Shabaab increased in Kenya, even though most attacks were in Somalia,” the report observes.

Of the listed East African countries, Kenya only bettered the Democratic Republic of Congo which was ranked as the second most dangerous country in the world after Nigeria.

Other East African nations included in the list were Burundi (28) and South Sudan (27).

Instructively, African countries dominated the top 30 list with 16 slots.

Mali came in at number three on the list, with Somalia coming in at number five due primarily to the threat presented by Al Shabaab.

The report on ratings comes even as Kenya reinforces its counter-terrorism strategy to safeguard the nation against the perils of terrorism and extremism.

Notably, Kenyan troops are already operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to restore peace.

Similarly, Kenya has entered into an agreement to dispatch police officers to Haiti, with the aim of restoring stability in a country currently under the control of gangs.
