Kaplong Girls High School in Bomet County has been closed indefinitely following a student protest over alleged sexual harassment by a male teacher.
The incident, which sparked tension within the school, led to an abrupt disruption of learning activities.
According to Principal Claire Mitei, the decision to close the school was made to restore calm and allow authorities to investigate the matter.
The students reportedly staged a protest demanding action, citing repeated cases of inappropriate behavior.
During the unrest, students vandalised several school installations, including breaking window panes in dormitories and classrooms. The school bus was also damaged after being pelted with stones.
The incident has triggered widespread concern, with parents, alumni, and the public calling for accountability and immediate action on the accused.
According to unconfirmed reports, the teacher in question is alleged to have engaged some students in sexually inappropriate conversations and advances.
There are also claims that he lured students to his office and sent them explicit messages.
Education officials and security teams have since been deployed to handle the situation.

Meanwhile, last week, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) sent a teacher implicated in cases of sexual misconduct at Alliance Girls High School on a 30-day compulsory leave.
Acting TSC Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei made the decision on Tuesday, July 25, as the probe into the embattled teacher intensified.
The teacher is alleged to have breached multiple provisions of the Teachers Service Commission Act and the Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT), by allegedly engaging in what the TSC termed as professional misconduct.
This followed a recent exposé by Africa Uncensored, titled The Teacher and the System, which revealed a disturbing pattern of alleged abuse dating back over 20 years.
Former students and staff accused the teacher of using his role as Christian Union patron and mentor to manipulate and exploit vulnerable girls.
