Martha Karua shares TBT Photo of Saba Saba reforms struggle with Raila Odinga ahead of a grand march to protest Finance Bill Act 2023.

Karua, one of the proponents of multi-partyism took to her official Twitter account to reflect on how far Kenya has come in the struggle for constitutional, political, and socioeconomic reforms while reliving the moments of the second liberation.

“But we are not there yet, my people. We have a history-defining election to win and liberate this country once and for all. #Inawezekana,” Karua said.

Every year on July 7, Saba Saba Day is observed to remember Kenya’s early 1990s struggle for multi-party democracy.

“As we commemorate Saba Saba, let us reflect on the long road traveled and what we’ve achieved in expanding the democratic space we enjoy,” said the former prime minister taking a fifth stab at the presidency.

The grand march during that time led to demonstrations to repeal section 2A of Kenya’s old constitution to allow for multi-party democracy.

The Saba Saba event is popularly referred to as Kenya’s second liberation.

The grand march was a reaction by Kenyans and a section of political elites who had lived under the dictatorship of Kenya’s second president the late Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi with his one-party rule.

Karua shared the photo ahead of SabaSaba grand march tomorrow to protest against the Finance Bill Act 2023, high cost of living among other national issues.
