One Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate dies in Tigania West Constituency, Meru County.
Confirming the incident on Monday, November 4, Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma disclosed that the male candidate died on Sunday night.
Ouma did not give finer details on the death of the candidate, but he also confirmed that two female candidates gave birth before the national examination.
“We are saddened that last night we lost a male candidate from Tigania West. We also have two female students who were expectant and they gave birth at Meru Hospital. We will keep giving you updates as we receive them,” Ouma told the press.
The commissioner noted that there are 412 examination centres in Meru County where the KCSE examination will be administered.
He added that 29,148 candidates will sit for the national examination, out of which 13,907 are male and 15,241 are female.

The national examination commenced on Tuesday, October 22, but candidates began sitting for the main papers on Monday, November 4.
A total of 965,501 candidates across 10,754 centres are sitting for the national test this year.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba warned against examination malpractice, affirming that action would be taken against any perpetrators.
“This year the rules are very strict. The examination papers have security features and we are ensuring that there are no mobile phones in any examination centre. And if you find somebody is insisting that they want to be there with the phone, it is an offence and we can take disciplinary action against them,” Ogamba remarked.
