A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate in Nakuru succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning after he was stabbed during a fight with another student on Saturday night.

Confirming the incident, Gilgil Deputy County Commissioner Willy Cheboi noted that the tragic incident happened amid the ongoing national examinations.

The candidate, who was a student at Shiners’ Boys High School in Nakuru, was pronounced dead at Nakuru Level 6 Hospital.

The police have since launched a manhunt for four students, one who stabbed the candidate and three accomplices.

Reports indicated that four students disagreed over personal items destroyed in school which led to the incident that occurred at around 8:00 pm.

Earlier, the police had reported they were pursuing the four students who scampered away into thickets after the evening incident.

According to Gilgil sub-county police commander Winstone Mwakio, the four suspects had received suspension letters from the school over disciplinary issues.

“The four had been suspended for indiscipline cases,” stated Mwakio noting that the indiscipline in the school was wanting.

When they returned to sit for their KCSE exams, the four found their personal items destroyed. They suspected that the deceased was responsible for the destruction and attacked the victim leaving him with stab wounds.

The police who arrived at the scene confirmed the main suspect fled away with the knife and were trailing him together with his three accomplices to be brought to book.

In a press briefing, the police boss expressed concern about how the killer knife found its way into the school’s vicinity. “We can’t tell how they acquired the knife but the students there are notorious,” the police boss stated.

The body of the deceased has since been transferred to the Nakuru morgue waiting for an autopsy examination.
