Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers came to the rescue of a pregnant woman who had been in labour for hours in Wajir County.

The KDF said in a statement on Friday, March 22, that the soldiers encountered the woman while conducting an operation close to Gherille.

Since there was nowhere to take care of them medically, the officers stepped in and assisted her in giving birth.

According to KDF, the officers proceeded to take the mother and her newborn child to a nearby medical facility so that they could receive medical attention as per standard protocol.

“KDF troops under Close Operations from Gherille while on patrol in the area came to the aid of a pregnant woman who had been in labour for hours. The patrol medics managed to facilitate a safe delivery to a healthy baby boy.

“The mother, Salma Osman, was handed her healthy baby boy. The mother and the newborn were later taken to Gherille Health facility for postnatal care and vaccination,” read the statement in part.

Further following the successful delivery of the baby, KDF also donated foodstuff to celebrate the newborn.

“The patrol further in line with the Kenyan tradition of receiving a newborn gave a basket of edibles to the family. We wish the mother and baby good health,” KDF stated.

Following the news, Kenyans took to social media to celebrate the officers for their kindness and for going out of their way to ensure that the mother and her newborn received medical attention.

“Champ was born under tight security. A big thank you to our servicemen,” Nicholas Muli posted on his X account.

This is not the first instance where the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have come to the aid of an expectant mother.

In May 2023, soldiers deployed to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) assisted a mother in safely delivering her baby. Remarkably, the soldiers were engaged in an operation aimed at addressing the militant group M23 at the time.

In addition to their primary duties, the disciplined forces also provided the new family with essential food supplies during the operation.
