Keep politics out of Ruto's tour; Mt Kenya politician tells residents
KICC Board Chair Irungu Nyakera has pleaded with the residents of the Mount Kenya region to prioritize development over politics in the upcoming tour by President William Ruto in the region.
Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) board Chairperson Irungu Nyakera has announced he will not attend President William Ruto’s tour to the Mt region next week.
In a statement on Sunday, March 30, Nyakera said he is in school at Oxford University in the United Kingdom and won’t make it to the President’s tour.
“I will not be present during the President’s upcoming visit to Mt Kenya as I am still in school at Oxford University,” said Nyakera.
The KICC board Chairperson, at the same time, warned Mt Kenya against being hostile to President Ruto when he visits the region.
Nyakera urged the Mt Kenya locals to focus on development and not politics during the Head of State’s tour.

“In the last election, Mt Kenya voted for development and development, as we all know, comes through the Office of the President. When he visits next week, let our focus be on that development, not on the politics,” said Nyakera.
“History has taught us harsh lessons. When Mzee Jomo Kenyatta visited Kisumu with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and was received with hostility, development in that region came to a halt for decades,” he added.
Nyakera observed that the region suffered during Uhuru Kenyatta’s final term because they allowed politics to override development.
“Let us not repeat the same mistakes. A time for politics will come, but it is not now, and it is certainly not next week. This is a time to engage constructively, to secure what we voted for, and to prioritize the needs of our people,” he added.
President Ruto is expected to start his one-week tour to the Mt Kenya region from Tuesday April 1, 2025.
This will be the first time the President will be touring the Mt Kenya region since the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
