According to reports, the officer identified as Paytone Mitch Opiyo was carrying his brother when the crash occurred on Sunday night.

The officer died on the spot together with the rider of the other motorbike involved. The accident occurred along Bondo-Usenge Road.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the crash to the press noting that two pillion passengers sustained injuries in the process.

The two were taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital for specialised treatment while the bodies of the deceased were transferred to the morgue.

The accidents come barely a week after the Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla perished alongside nine others when a chopper they were travelling in crashed.

The accident occurred shortly after a working tour the KDF boss had taken in the Rift Valley region on Thursday.

In a latter sombre state of the nation address, President William Ruto noted that the chopper crashed with 11 passengers on board, 9 of whom died alongside CDF Ogolla.

Ogolla had left Nairobi on Thursday morning, to visit troops deployed in the North Rift under Operation Maliza Uhalifu and to inspect renovation works on five schools.

Ogolla then proceeded to the Kainuk Forward Operating Base in Turkana County where he addressed troops.

In his speech during Ogolla’s burial, Ruto promised that conclusive investigations of the crash would be carried out and the findings made public.
