Kenya Power has said police are pursuing Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai following an alleged assault on one of its employees.

KPLC General Manager, Human Resources and Administration Cecilia Kalungu stated in a statement on Tuesday that they are coordinating with security agencies.

“They have vowed to ensure that justice for our employees is served,” she added.

Kenya Power also added that security officers will also give recommendations on how to keep the KPLC employees safe as they carry out their duties.

“We assure employees that the Company will provide them with the necessary support and security when needed to thank employees for the great work that they are doing they are,” Kalungu said.

She commended the KPLC employees for their work, urging them to keep up so they can achieve their corporate objectives.

In addition, The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) slammed Mbai terming his behaviour an ‘intimidation to their workers’ as they called for the apprehension of the MP.

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the actions of the Member of Parliament for Kitui East and demand that he faces the full force of the law for his unlawful conduct towards the Kenya power engineer,” IEK said.

The statements came after a viral clip showed a KPLC officer being allegedly assaulted by Mbai.

Mbai claimed that the officer identified had removed electric poles leading to his house at Kitengela, Kajiado County.

The officer, who had been accompanied to the MP’s house by KPLC security and two regular police officers, did not retaliate.

Defending himself, Mbai said he had been invaded by the KPLC staff at his house.

“I was fighting back the people who invaded me. I had to fight back. The viral video you are talking about has been edited to only show me fighting back,” he said.

The KPLC officer however said that the connection to the home was illegally installed.
