A protester in his late 20s, Rex Kanyike Masai succumbed to injuries after an alleged police shooting incident within the CBD during anti-Finance Bill protests.

Outraged Kenyans are demanding justice for Rex Kanyike Masai, a protestor, who was allegedly shot by a police officer during the anti-fiance bill demons on Thursday, June 20 in Nairobi CBD. 

Reports indicate that he was shot in the evening by a live bullet reportedly fired by a police officer during the protests against the Finance Bill demos. 

In the incident, a plain-clothed officer was filmed firing at the protesters at around 7 pm as police moved to contain the protests.

Some of the protesters who took the injured protester to a medical facility revealed that he was confirmed dead at the facility within the CBD.

According to Netizens, the incident was captured on CCTV and efforts are being made to trace the officer linked to the incident. 

Preliminary examination by the doctors indicates that the protester was hit with a bullet in the thighs.

Activist Boniface Mwangi reached out to Rex’s mum and helped with moving the body to the City mortuary. 

“I have met with Rex’s mum, and we are on our way to City Mortuary. Since it’s a homicide, the police have said the body has to be booked in a public mortuary. After the post-mortem, we shall move Rex,” Mwangi said. 

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Rex Kanyike. He is currently lying at the City Mortuary Morgue.

Kenyans, under the hashtag, #JusticeForRex, are demanding the cop linked to the murder be arrested and tried in court.
