Kenyatta University gets acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Waceke Wanjohi after the sacking of Prof. Paul Wainaina

Prof. Waceke Wanjohi has been picked to take over as Kenyata University’s vice chancellor in place of Prof. Paul Wainaina.

Wanjohi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics at Kenyatta University, will fill the position temporarily.

Prof. Wainaina was controversially ousted for refusing to cede Kenyatta University land to the government for a WHO project among other uses.

Prof. Paul Okemo, the DVC in charge of Administration, informed Kenyatta University’s entire employees on July 13 that Wanjohi’s appointment took effect on Tuesday, July 12.

“The university’s management wishes to assure members of staff that all programmes will proceed as previously scheduled. The management requests staff for their support as they continue dispensing their duties to ensure the smooth running of the university,” said Okemo.

Meanwhile, a new University Council has also been installed after the former council was dissolved for refusing to surrender land to the government.

The university’s new council is chaired by Crispus Kiamba, with Jane Wamoko, Carilus Odumbe, Maj. Gen (Rtd) Bashir Yussuf, Andrew Nyanchoga and Alice Muita as members.

The new council is set to hold its first meeting on Friday, 15, July according to University Education and Research PS Simon Nabukwesi.

Nabukwesi was responding to claims that the appointed council members had declined to take up the job.

“The new council led by Crispus Kiamba will hold their first meeting on July 15 on their transactional business going forward,” Nabukwesi said.
