Kiambu Governor Wamatangi claims life in danger after unknown vehicle trails him
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi now claims his life is in danger after he was allegedly trailed by an unknown vehicle with three occupants, prompting him to demand enhanced security.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Wamatangi said the incident raised serious concerns about his safety, particularly coming barely days after most of his security detail was withdrawn.
He thus demanded that his security be beefed up to ensure adequate protection against those he says have ill-intentions against him.
“They were trying to appear as if they’re minding other business, but it is my movements that they were watching. If there was any issue to be brought to my attention, they would come and speak to me, but the whole saga tells me there was a sinister motive with those who were trailing me,” the Governor said.
Wamatangi said he intends to formally report the matter to the Inspector General of Police, calling for investigations into the incident.
“It is important that I bring it to the attention of the IG since it is my opinion, position and request that I should have very enhanced security. I don’t want to be a rumour monger, but such people may not have good intentions,” he said.

The Governor added that the situation has left him feeling exposed, noting that only two security officers have been reinstated following the withdrawal of his guards last week.
“I have two back but the incident of today raises very serious concerns to me since ordinarily, before I was okay even to move without them, but now it is quite a concern,” Wamatangi stated.
He insisted that his security arrangements must be reviewed urgently to address any potential threats.
“My security now needs to be relooked at so that those threats can be countered as I remain personally vigilant,” he said.
Wamatangi’s woes come barely a week after the High Court issued orders freezing his personal bank account, those of his wife and children, and ten other individuals over a Ksh.813 million corruption case.
The freeze followed the demolition of his business premises near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, where his premises were vandalised in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
According to witnesses, police officers arrived at the area around 12am and used teargas canisters and live rounds to disperse crowds and those on duty before demolitions commenced.
