Former President Mwai Kibaki’s burial taxpayers Sh260 million.

The details on the cost of the burial of Kenya’s third President are contained in the national government’s supplementary estimates II for the 2021/23 fiscal year, which National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani presented to the National Assembly on Tuesday.

In the supplementary estimates, the CS is seeking post-facto approval to regularise the Sh63.9 billion government expenditure.

The areas covered by the mini-budget are; regularisation of fuel stabilization, security, and drought-related expenditures, adjustments in development partners-financed projects, and regularisation of approved additional expenditures and reallocations within government ministries, and departments.

However, on Kibaki’s burial, the budget does not give an account of how the money was spent.

“Funds were granted to cater for the State Burial of the third President of the Republic of Kenya,” said CS Yatani as quoted by Business Daily.

Kibaki’s funeral was a state-sponsored event that lasted for days.

There were luminaries from several countries in attendance, including current and former heads of state.

It is crucial to note, however, that his remains were interred nine days after his death, after resting for days at Lee Funeral Home.

A state funeral was held at Nyayo stadium the day before his internment. The body was afterward moved to Othaya by road.

Around 3,000 people attended the event at Nyayo Stadium, which included entertainment and food, and the same at Othaya.
