KNEC (Kenya National Examinations Council) announced that the registration of candidates for the 2023 teachers' education examinations

KNEC (Kenya National Examinations Council) announced that the registration of candidates for the 2023 teachers’ education examinations has been opened to Friday, January 20.

In a statement dated Friday, January 13, KNEC detailed the list of examinations interested teachers can register for in the academic year 2023.

The teacher’s education examinations are professional tests given to candidates for the teaching profession at different levels.

“Additionally, candidates who were referred to Primary Education (PTE) examination which has been phased out shall be allowed to re-sit the papers referred for the last time in March/April 2023, thereafter KNEC shall not offer the PTE examination,” KNEC added.

Exams include the Teacher Certificate for Adult Education (TCAE), the Upgrade Diploma in Primary Education (UDPTE), the Upgrade Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Teacher Education (UDECTE), the Primary Teacher Education Certificate (PTE) for candidates who were referred in prior years.

Others include the Early Childhood Development Education Diploma (ECDE) and Certificate, the Diploma in Special Education, and the Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE).

ECDE examinations are courses taken by students who wish to specialize in Early Childhood Education.

While the PTE is a two-year course taken by students who wish to be teachers at the Primary School level after they complete the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

All those who pursue the course are awarded a certificate in Primary Teacher Education.

TCAE examination on the other hand is a two-year course taken by students who wish to be teachers at an adult education centre after they complete the KCSE examination.

It is administered to eligible candidates within Kenya by the Directorate of Adult and Continuing Education, in the Ministry of Education on behalf of KNEC.

All interested teachers have been urged to register before the set deadline.
