The Kenya National Examinations Council has announced that it will open the examinations registration portal for the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) in February.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere made the announcement on Friday January 9, during the release of the 2025 KCSE results at AIC Chebisaas High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Njengere said the portal will cater to candidates in Grade 6, Grade 9, and Form Four, with registration expected to run from February to March.

“I take this chance to remind every parent with a child entering Grade 6, Grade 9, and Form Four this year to please take an interest in checking whether your child has been registered. We are going to open the portal for registration in February, which will run all the way to March,” he said.

He noted that KNEC often receives complaints from parents very close to the examination period, only to discover that some candidates were never registered.

“We get parents who call us a month before the examination, telling us that their children have not been registered. That makes our work very difficult,” Njengere added.

In addition, KNEC announced that it will introduce an SMS verification code in April to allow parents to confirm whether their children have been successfully registered.

Njengere said the SMS service will be available during the April school holidays to give parents ample time to raise any concerns.

Meanwhile, the Kenya National Examinations Council said it has rolled out a digital portal providing free training courses aimed at equipping senior school teachers with skills to effectively implement the Competency-Based Education curriculum.

“For senior school, KNEC has made arrangements so that we have a portal that all senior school teachers can use to develop their capacities around competency-based assessments.”

The Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok assured markers and examiners involved in the 2025 national examinations that the government, in collaboration with the Treasury, is taking steps to clear all outstanding payments.

“I want to assure all our stakeholders who participated in the 2025 exams that we’re working very closely with the treasury and their dues will be paid as soon as possible,” Bitok said.
