KUCCPS announces date and application process for inter-institutional transfer

The 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students will soon be able to change the institutions they selected after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) announced plans to open its portal for inter-institutional transfers.

Applicants who wish to change the courses or institutions they selected during the 2025 application cycle will be able to do so from Monday, July 14.

In a notice dated July 11 and addressed to Vice-Chancellors, the Placement Service revealed that the inter-institutional transfer portal would be open for ten days, with the window expected to close on July 24.

KUCCPS, in its announcement, clarified that the changes to courses and institutions would only be availed to applicants who meet the applicable cut-off points.

The inter-institution transfer process

The first step involves the student initiating an online transfer application through the KUCCPS portal, which is then submitted to the receiving institution.

Subsequently, the receiving institution endorses the application through its institutional portal and accepts the student online.

The third step involves the releasing institution receiving the application and releasing the student online via its institutional portal.

Once the student is released to the receiving institution, the endorsed application is returned to KUCCPS online for approval, after which a transfer letter is generated.

The applicant then downloads the approved transfer letter and presents the same to the receiving institution for issuance of the admission letter and joining instructions.

According to KUCCPS, both the releasing and receiving institutions will receive a transfer report through their institutional portals.

“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to inform you of the timelines and to request that you accord the applicants timely support during this period,” KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer, Agnes Wahome, told Vice-Chancellors and Directors of TVET institutions.

“During the processing of inter-faculty and programme transfers in degree programmes, institutions are required to strictly adhere to individual programme cut-off points and minimum subject requirements as published by KUCCPS,” she added.
