KUCCPS raises alarm over university applications ahead of deadline
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has raised an alarm over the low applications witnessed among students who qualified for university courses.
According to the KUCCPS Director for Placement and Career Development, John Oluoch, less than 50% of qualified students had applied for the courses.
While addressing the media on Thursday, April 17, Oluoch advised students to take advantage of the remaining period to submit the applications.
He reiterated that the KUCCPS application was running smoothly and had no system challenges.
According to reports, out of the slightly over 246,000 students who qualified for university courses, only 104,000 have applied for degree courses.

“We are nearly getting to half of the total qualified students. We are urging those who have not been able to apply to do so. They do not have to wait for the last minute to struggle to get to the application portal,” he stated.
“We do not have any issues with system failure or downtime.”
On the other hand, the KUCCPS official detailed that government officers were traversing parts of the country to engage with stakeholders on the challenges they may be facing with the applications.
The nationwide exercise is also aimed at pushing the current application numbers.
“These officers are supporting parents, guardians and students to apply so that they cannot be left behind,” he added.
The KUCCPS application portal is expected to be closed on Wednesday, April 30.
