According to his elder brother Canon Hezekiah Oduor, the late General Francis Ogolla would be buried without a casket, as per his desires.
Oduor stated that the funeral will be extremely basic and in accordance with the late General’s desire to be interred within 72 hours after his death.
He also said that his brother had shown him the exact location of his tomb, which is near his residence in Mor village, Siaya County. Oduor stated that the burial will take place on Sunday, April 21.
The late General Ogolla desired a modest ritual burial similar to Muslim rituals, which the family claims he specified in his Will.
According to Ogolla’s directions, his body should be shrouded in blankets to relieve what he described as undue stress on the family.
Despite the simplicity of the burial, the family has stated that further Luo traditions would be performed.
Oduor invited others who wanted to mourn with them to come, either in spirit or physically, and assured them that there would be enough food for everyone.
The late General’s sister, Peris Onyango, told the Star that her brother was well prepared for death.
She claimed that whenever he visited, he would describe to her how he wanted his funeral to look, despite her efforts to persuade him otherwise.
Onyango noted that her brother has repeatedly stated that death is a fact, particularly for soldiers like him who confront death in the line of duty.

“The sudden death has thrown the entire community into a state of disarray as Ogolla was a philanthropist,” Onyango said.
She characterized her late brother as very generous and attentive to the challenges facing the community.
“He helped the church and ensured its completion, provided a water borehole, and rewarded the schools he attended.
“That’s why when the news of his death broke yesterday, people came in numbers to mourn him because he had no boundaries,” she said.
However, the family vowed that the 100th birthday celebrations for their father, Mzee Joel Oyeyo, would go ahead as planned on Saturday.
The family intended to celebrate the centenarian’s birthday on Saturday, with the consecration taking place on Sunday at St Thomas Nduru Anglican Church.
According to family members, General Ogolla was scheduled to visit the village on Friday to help with preparations for both festivities.
