Let him be investigated first – Sudi on resignation calls for DIG Eliud Lagat

Oscar Sudi has called on Kenyans to give relevant authorities time to investigate the death of Ojwang before making conclusions
Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has called on Kenyans to give relevant authorities time to investigate the death of Ojwang before making conclusions.
Speaking in his constituency on Friday, June 20, Sudi called on Kenyans to wait for investigations to be completed before demanding the resignation of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat.
He opined that the DIG needed to be allowed to resume office if it is determined that he did not have any involvement in the murder.
Likewise, he stated that the authorities would be required to prosecute the DIG if it is established that he had a hand in the death of Ojwang.
“Let’s assume that I make a complaint and the police arrest a person. If they go to do their own things on the way, will that be my mistake?” he posed.
“I have seen people pushing for Eliud to leave office or be fired. He has stepped aside. Let him be investigated. If it is determined that he did not do anything, let him go back to the office, and if he is found guilty, let him be charged.”

In the meantime, he condemned the murder of Ojwang, adding that those responsible needed to have action taken against them.
Nonetheless, he cautioned the youth against being aggressive with the police, citing instances where some individuals were seen to be in physical scuffles with the police.
“Those people who killed that boy (Ojwang) were wrong, and we condemn it, and those people need to be charged,” he stated.
“Do not also run after the police because you want to take their gun away from them.’
Ojwang was arrested by police following a complaint that was made by DIG Lagat. He later died while in police custody, with his autopsy showing that he was assaulted.
Consequently, Kenyans demanded that Lagat leave office. Due to public pressure, he stepped aside.
Lagat is reported to have been interrogated by IPOA officers on Thursday.
