Let’s have a limit on what you can say about a President – UDA Senator

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has called for restraint on criticism extended to a sitting President.
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has called for restraint on criticism extended to a sitting President.
Speaking in Bomet County on Tuesday, April 15, the UDA senator expressed concern over the criticism President William Ruto was facing.
According to the Senator, some Kenyans and the media were now ridiculing Ruto, further discrediting the Office of the President.
Cheruiyot opined that there needs to be a limit on what can be said about a President, adding that some countries have been destroyed owing to the disregard for various institutions such as the Presidency.
“I want to appeal to the country that there will be another President after William Ruto. The institution of the Presidency is not just about William Ruto alone. This is a seat that is sacred to the country. Let us have limits about what you can say about the holder of the office.
“A president is a symbol of national unity, you cannot reduce and make that position to be about ridicule just because you hate he person that is occupying it. Countries that fall apart begin by disregarding institutions such as the Presidency,” he stated.
Additionally, the Senate Majority Leader took issue with some of the media headlines, opining that the media was not following guidelines in their coverage.
“I have also studied journalism, and what I am reading in the media is not journalism anymore. It is as if all the rules have been suspended,” Cheruiyot expressed.

Ruto and his government have come under criticism in recent months, with opposition leaders and the media exposing policies and alleged corruption in the current administration.
For instance, former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi alleged that senior government officials were benefiting from government projects and programmes.
He added that Ruto was double-faced and was not tackling corruption in his government.
“I think William Ruto is a person with two personalities. The William Ruto that presents himself to the public is a completely different character from the one that sits in the office and crafts stuff,” he stated while on an interview on NTV.
“Such a person is a dangerous character. I think William Ruto is unfit for the position of president of the Republic of Kenya.”
