A Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker burst into flames near Fedha Estate matatu stage in Pipeline, Nairobi County.

A Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker has burst into flames along the Outering Road near the Fedha Estate in Nairobi.

Photos from the scene showed a huge fire and smoke billowing from the LPG tanker which exploded near a bus terminal.

A 14-seater Embassava matatu which was near the LPG tanker was burnt to bare metal.

A section of the residents in the area could be seen evacuating from the scene for their safety.

Firefighters from Nairobi County arrived at the scene to assist in extinguishing the fire.

Two people have been reported to be seriously injured following the incident. No deaths have been reported.

The authorities are also yet to establish the cause of the LPG tanker explosion.

The incident comes months after another gas explosion in Embakasi’s Mradi area killed six people and left more than 270 others seriously injured.

The blast, which took place in February and left several people nursing injuries, saw households moved to social halls after their homes were also affected.

Among the agencies that were sued included the National Environment Management Authority, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and the County Government of Nairobi.

The Attorney General, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Cabinet Secretary for Energy, and the owner of the gas tanker that exploded were also mentioned as interested parties.

The petitioners claimed that the respondents had awarded operating licenses and approvals to the tanker to operate and had failed to take necessary action after the blast occurred.
