LSK president dismisses police statement on Albert Ojwang’s cause of death
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has firmly rejected the statement issued by the National Police Service regarding the cause of death of Albert Ojwang.
Speaking to a section of the media on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Central Police Station, Odhiambo demanded answers surrounding the mysterious death of Ojwang, raising concerns about inconsistencies in the police narrative.
According to her, the family had confirmed that Albert was in communication with friends who were already organising a fundraiser to raise bail in anticipation of his court appearance.
This, she argued, contradicted the police’s claim that Ojwang died from self-inflicted injuries, suggesting that a person with plans to secure release would be unlikely to take their own life.
“The family had indicated that he wanted bail to be raised so that he could be released on Monday after being taken to court, and the friends had already started contributing, and so the argument that this may have been a suicide bears no legs,” Faith stated.

Odhiambo also revealed that the family had been denied access to the crime scene and had been informed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had taken the keys to the room where Ojwang reportedly died. She expressed suspicion that this move may be aimed at manipulating the scene to match the official police version of events.
“By the fact that the family are not allowed to see the crime scene, to us it raises questions: do they want to prepare the crime scene to suit the story that they are telling us? Because nobody has seen the crime scene, they are saying that the key has been taken away by the DCI. We have never seen such a thing,” Odhiambo questioned.
She further called for individual accountability of the officers involved, urging the National Police Service not to protect anyone implicated in the incident.
According to Odhiambo, the LSK is committed to ensuring that each officer responsible faces justice without hiding behind institutional orders.
“As LSK, we are going to make sure that each officer is held accountable individually; you will not hide behind any orders from above,” she added
She concluded by affirming that the LSK has an existing Memorandum of Understanding with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and that both institutions will collaborate to ensure that those found culpable are brought to justice.
She further called for respect for human life.
