Luhya community is not in the broad-based government; Senator Khalwale
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has voiced his concerns regarding the exclusion of the Luhya community from the formation of the broad-based government.
Speaking on Saturday, April 26, Khalwale lamented that key leaders from the Luhya community were sidelined during critical negotiations.
He appealed to Luhya leaders including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to recognize the reality of the political landscape.
“When the broad-based government was being formed between President Ruto and Raila, I was not there, Mudavadi was not invited, Oparanya and Wetangula were also not invited.
“I beg Musalia and Wetangula to accept that we are not at the center of the broad-based government,” he stated.

Khalwale called on the Luhya community to actively engage in politics in order to secure a place in national politics.
“If we want the Luhya community to take pride in the broad-based government, we must push our politics until President Ruto and Raila come to persuade us and include us as well,” he added.
Notably, this comes barely a month after Siaya Governor James Orengo challenged the ODM party to stand by its principles even when in the broad-based arrangement.
Speaking in Siaya County on Friday, April 11, he opined that the party ought not to be satisfied with the status quo, adding that the party needed to have plans to challenge for the presidency in 2027.
Orengo acknowledged that Raila had hinted that the party would be fielding a candidate in the 2027 polls to challenge Ruto.
“As a party, we cannot be in a position where we are satisfied with the status quo. We must always challenge the status quo. As a party, if we want to move ahead, we must be ready to challenge the status quo,” he remarked.
