Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama's family has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of the lawmaker's son, Moses Nduya Muthama.
Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama’s family has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of the lawmaker’s son, Moses Nduya Muthama.
Reports indicate that Moses allegedly collapsed and died on the evening of Wednesday, February 4, shortly after developing breathing problems.
Attempts to rush him to a nearby hospital proved futile as he passed away upon arrival at the facility, dealing a huge blow to the family.
Nduya was the only child of Kavindu and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, who also served as the chairperson of the United Democratic Alliance.
His death has sent shockwaves in Machakos and across the country, even as leaders and friends took to social media to console the family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Machakos Senator, Agnes Kavindu Muthama and her family during this difficult time,” said Kitui Senator Enock Wambua.
“I’m deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your son, Moses Muthama. Please accept our sincerest condolences. Pole sana, Mheshimiwa,” he added.

While details surrounding his death remain unclear, the body has since been preserved at a local mortuary in Machakos, awaiting a postmortem.
The latest incident comes hardly three years after Johnston Muthama lost his daughter, Janet Njoki.
Njoki died in April 2022, with President William Ruto, who was then the Deputy President, describing the deceased as a diligent, responsible, and honest person who was deeply dependable.
Despite announcing her death, Muthama’s family chose to keep the specific circumstances of her death private. She was buried at the family’s home in Tala, Machakos County.
Meanwhile, Senator Kavindu joins the list of senior political figures who have lost their loved ones over the past year.
They include Dagoretti MP Beatrice Elachi, who lost his son in March last year and Speaker Moses Wetangula, who lost his brother in December of the same year.
