Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has rallied Kenyans from the Mt Kenya region to support President Ruto and their elected MPs.
Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has publicly declared his support for President William Ruto, urging the residents of the Mt. Kenya region to unite behind the government.
This announcement was made during a prayer meeting held at Kabiruini Showground in Nyeri on New Year’s Eve.
In his address, Njenga emphasized the need for collaboration between the youth and government leaders to foster grassroots development.
He dismissed rumors of a political rift in the region following the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, asserting that “the region remains united with the government” and that only one individual has defected from the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Highlighting the importance of youth engagement, Njenga introduced what he termed the Kabiruini Declaration, which commits young people in the region to work alongside the current government.
He said that achieving development goals requires active support for elected leaders and safeguarding resources like the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

During his speech, Njenga criticised Gachagua for not adequately addressing issues affecting key sectors such as coffee and tea, which are crucial to the local economy.
You recently saw the President visit Uhuru in Gatundu. Several cabinet secretaries were named afterwards, and we believe this new unity will steer the region forward. With CS Mutahi Kagwe at the helm, we are confident the coffee and tea sectors will be revived.
He expressed optimism about revitalising these industries through enhanced cooperation among political leaders, including President Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
