Man City may live to regret making a hasty Jack Grealish transfer decision according to emerging reports.

Jack Grealish is yet to show his best form in a sky-blue shirt but Manchester City must not lose patience according to a report by Alex Brotherton of Manchester evening news.

Ever since Jack Grealish arrived at Manchester City in 2021 the noise has been constant over how he’s not good enough, he’s too expensive and City should sell him.

Recent reports have suggested that City could consider moving Grealish on should they receive a suitable offer in the summer, and if that turned out to be the case then there would surely be no shortage of potential suitors.

Grealish has only assisted four goals and scored seven goals in 55 games for Man City.

There is much more to his game than goals and assists, even if it is evident that he needs to improve on that and has acknowledged as much.

One of City’s most dependable attackers in terms of maintaining possession and making room for others is undoubtedly Grealish.

Only Kevin de Bruyne has created more shots per 90 minutes for City this season, and the fact that Grealish has underperformed his projected assist rating by 1.2 indicates that his teammates could have at least provided him one assist with better finishing.

Going into the finer details of what Grealish has done so far at City can seem like clutching at straws: of course, City wants and expect more end product from him. But what shouldn’t be underestimated is the time required by certain players to settle in at City, and particularly, Guardiola’s system.

“The first season [at City] is not very easy. It wasn’t easy for me when I arrived. I didn’t play much,” Bernardo Silva said recently in defence of Grealish’s start to life at the Etihad Stadium.

“People that play in other clubs think ‘if one day I play for Man City I will score 20 goals and 20 assists’ but it doesn’t work like that. Jack [Grealish], in the way he works for the team, in the way he attracts players to him and then creates spaces for other players, he has been helping us a lot.”

It’s possible that Grealish will never satisfy outsiders—and even some City supporters—unless he performs better than he did at Aston Villa. It is improbable that will ever happen given that he was the star attacker at his childhood side rather than a part of a sophisticated machine.

The worst thing City could do, though, is to prematurely abandon a player who has this season displayed some of his full potential.

The 27-year-old is showing signs of slowly but surely repaying Guardiola’s faith in him, but if Grealish hasn’t continued to progress by the end of this season, it could be time to reconsider.
