Manchester United ready to tear up Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract on one condition

Manchester United ready to tear up Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract on one condition after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Following Ronaldo’s explosive, unauthorized interview in which he claimed to have “no regard” for manager Erik ten Hag and accused Manchester United of abandoning him, Manchester United is reviewing its options, including whether to penalize Ronaldo and whether it can take further disciplinary action.

As long as Cristiano Ronaldo does not seek a pay-off for the remainder of his contract, the club will contemplate tearing up the player’s agreement during the January transfer window.

These choices also include negotiating with Ronaldo to end his contract, which is up in June of next year, so that he can go on his own terms.

The final six months of his lucrative contract, which is said to be worth almost £560,000 per week (€637,000), making him the highest-paid player in United’s history, will not be paid, sources are convinced.

However, there is a feeling that Ronaldo will make this demand.

Despite the popular consensus that he should never play for United again following his interview with Piers Morgan on Talk TV, United is desperately trying to avoid getting into a mud-slinging match with one of their best players.

There is a relief that United do not play again until the middle of December which gives them time to decide their best option.

United, who were celebrating their 2-1 win in the final Premier League game before the World Cup break, only found out about the interview just before news broke that it had taken place.

The club released a statement that read: “Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.”

United will therefore await the full details of the interview, to be broadcast tomorrow and Thursday night, before deciding what formal action to take over the 37-year-old’s behavior.

It may well be they even have grounds to terminate his contract due to what employment lawyers term “a potential breach of the implied duty of trust and confidence”.

There is a growing sense that Ronaldo will not be able to secure a leading European club.

He may have to hugely reduce his demands and make a homecoming to Sporting in Portugal or revise his plans and look at the MLS.
