Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o mourns the death of Mayfair Holdings billionaire entrepreneur, Amin Gilani.

Amin Gilani, the owner of Mayfair Holdings has died according to a condolence message released by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Monday, March 4.

The billionaire businessman and philanthropist passed away while undergoing treatment in the United Kingdom, according to Nyong’o. 

Nyong’o praised the businessman adding that Amin had created jobs that had transformed Kisumu’s economy.

“Gilani’s sudden demise in the United Kingdom on March 2, has robbed this County of a great investment partner,” he eulogized. 

“His business enterprises employed hundreds of people and contributed greatly to Kisumu County’s investment profile, especially in the tourism and manufacturing sectors.”

Nyong’o remarked that he had recently seen off Gilani’s wife who was traveling to London, UK to be with her husband. 

He sympathized with the family for losing their patriarch and owner of one of the oldest business chains in Kenya.

The Gilani family launched Mayfair Holdings Limited in 1967. The founding Gilani family member noted that at the time, he wanted to uplift the economy of Kisumu and its neighbourhoods. 

The company which employs directly close to 800 employees has invested heavily in the food and hospitality industry. 

Mayfair Holdings owns one of the most popular bread brands in Nyanza and Western regions. 

Additionally, the company owns a five-star hotel at the heart of Kisumu City with additional investments in the real estate business. 

The company further owns a massive storage facility which is used by traders to facilitate the export of fresh produce cargo through the Kisumu International Airport.
