Media personality Janet Mbugua has joined the Nation Media Group (NMG), eight years after quitting Citizen TV where she was a news anchor

Media personality Janet Mbugua has joined the Nation Media Group (NMG), eight years after quitting Citizen TV where she was a news anchor.

The announcement was made by Simaloi Dajom, the Head of Broadcasting at Nation Media Group, who described the former news anchor as a highly skilled journalist.

According to Dajom, Mbugua is an immensely skilled media personality with the ability to engage audiences on live television, radio stations and digital media.

“Dear Colleagues, I am excited to inform you that renowned media personality, Janet Mbugua has joined Nation Media Group,” Dajom announced.

“Please join me in extending a warm NMG welcome to Janet. Let us provide her with the support she needs to settle and thrive in her role as we drive our shared vision of Positively Influencing Society,” he added.

Janet Mbugua quit Citizen TV in 2017 after serving for five years. In her final message, she thanked the Royal Media Service (RMS) boss SK Macharia for the opportunity.

Mbugua, who anchored alongside former Citizen TV journalist Hussein Mohamed, announced that she was leaving the station but did not reveal her next destination.

During her tenure as one of the most prolific journalists in the country, Mbugua won several awards including being named one of the top three best news anchors in Kenya by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).

In the subsequent year, she was named among the top 40 Under 40 awardees by Business Daily Africa. In 2016, she was appointed as the brand ambassador for the Lifebuoy Help A Child Reach 5 campaign, representing Kenya globally.

Besides being a professional journalist, Mbugua is also famous for championing inclusivity for women and girls, she is also passionate about amplifying voices for social change.

She is the founder of the Inua Dada Foundation, an organization whose mission is to create a supportive and accessible environment for primary school girls in Kenya.

In July 2017 she joined The Hive, a US-based organization seeking to amplify Gender Equality messaging in Kenya and Tanzania, as the Kenya Advisor. The Hive is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
