Meru Governor pleads with Linturi, Munya after dismissing links to Ruto
Meru Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia has made an appeal to former Agriculture Cabinet Secretaries Mithika Linturi and Peter Munya, calling for unity and prioritization of security in Meru over political differences.
Speaking on Saturday, April 26, M’Ethingia urged Linturi to put aside his political ambitions and focus on the well-being of the county.
“Linturi, the president is your brother, you are my elder brother and a leader in Meru. We want to see you in State House fighting for this county.
“It’s not time for politics yet; it’s not time for political alignment, that time will come. Even if we are stinging like bees in politics, let’s come together for the sake of our security,” he said.
M’Ethingia also extended an olive branch to Munya, appealing to his sense of duty as a son of Meru.
“And I implore even my brother Munya because you are a son of Meru, when the time comes, we will all give ourselves to the voters. For now, I urge you, let us prioritise Meru security,” he added.
M’Ethingia’s comments come amid heightened political activity in Mt. Kenya region, with growing speculation about alignments ahead of the next general election.
For instance, Linturi recently led a delegation from Meru and Tharaka Niti counties to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence.
In an update on social media following the meeting, Gachagua described the engagement as productive and inspiring.
He also noted that discussions revolved around the anticipated launch of a new political party and the strategic role the two counties will play in its foundation.

“In the fullness of time, our nation Kenya, belongs to us all; a people determined to bequeath our future generation a strong economy, a nation full of opportunities and progress unmatched,” he said in part.
Notablely, the meeting came days after Linturi dismissed claims by President William Ruto that the two are in talks, accusing the Head of State of lying to the public.
He stated that he has not had any communication with Ruto in months, adding that when they last talked, he was not seeking a job.
“The President lied to the people of Meru that he’s in talks with me. The last time I talked to him was in December last year, and I was not seeking any job,” he said.
On the other hand, Munya made it clear that he is not seeking any government position.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 23, he dismissed any talk of accepting a role in government, stating that his only political interest is the Meru gubernatorial seat.
“For avoidance of doubt, I am focusing on running for the Meru governor seat in the coming elections. I want to make it very clear that I am not looking for any other job; the job I am only looking for is the Governor of Meru,” he said.
