Miguna Miguna joins the race to replace Noordin Haji as he confirms his application for DPP position.
Lawyer Miguna Miguna, on Monday, July 10, announced in a Twitter post that he has applied for the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) position which was declared vacant in June 2023.
The outspoken lawyer announced in a statement that he is running to succeed Noordin Haji, who was named Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) last month.
The lawyer who was at the center of a drawn-out deportation controversy during Uhuru’s term did not provide the date he submitted his application.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, yes, I have applied for the position of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP),” he announced.
Miguna, known for his abrasive politics, promised that he would undertake his mandate fairly and go after suspects accused of breaking the law.
According to the Consitution of Kenya 2010, the DPP directs the Inspector-General of the National Police Service (NPS) to investigate any allegations of criminal conduct.
The DPP office also institutes and undertakes the prosecution of criminal matters and all other related incidents.
Renowned lawyer Danstan Omari is also among those who have publicly expressed interests in the DPP post.

Already, President William Ruto has picked a team of seven to interview Haji’s successor.
Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) boss Twalib Abdallah Mbarak are among the seven panellists.
Others are Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, Richard Onsongo, Mary Adhiambo Maungu, Roseline Odede and Mary Kimonye.
The selection panel published the vacancy in local dailies, with Wednesday, July 12, as the deadline for application submissions.
The office currently attracts a monthly salary of Ksh765,188 with proposals by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to increase it to Ksh874,500.
The holder of the office will also be entitled to an official car with an engine capacity not exceeding 3000cc, a Ksh8 million car loan and a Ksh35 million mortgage.
Further, the DPP has medical health insurance of Ksh10 million for inpatients and Ksh300,000 for outpatients.
