In a statement on Tuesday, November 4, Sonko announced he has cleared the hospital bills for the mothers.
The former Governor said he intervened after he was requested to offer assistance in covering the medical bills for the 110 mothers.
Sonko also mentioned that he gave the mothers some financial support as they left the hospital.
“Today marked a very significant day for me and 110 mothers who were released from Mama Lucy Hospital after I settled their bills. This initiative was in response to a request for assistance in covering their medical expenses. In addition to settling their bills, I also provided them with a small amount of financial support as they left the hospital to return to their homes,” Sonko stated.
The former Nairobi governor also pledged to cover the Social Health Authority (SHA) fees for the mothers to ensure they have free access to medical services.
Sonko also revealed that four mothers lost their babies at the health facility and extended his heartfelt condolences.
“However, on a somber note, four mothers sadly lost their babies, and I extend my heartfelt condolences,” said Sonko.
The 110 mothers had medical bills amounting to Ksh2 million. However, Sonko negotiated with the hospital and paid Ksh1.6 million to secure their release, allowing them to return home.

This comes weeks after Sonko stepped in to support the families of two pupils who died at Emmanuel New Life Academy in Kayole.
In a statement on October 8, Sonko said his rescue team will cover all the morgue costs, procure coffins, and provide free transportation of the bodies of the pupils to their respective homes.
“I have just received the deeply shocking news of the tragic passing on of two innocent pupils at Emmanuel New Life Centre in Kayole, which occurred due to the collapse of two huge concrete blocks onto the school from a neighboring building under construction.
“As the Good Deeds Ambassador, through the Sonko Rescue Team, we will cover all the morgue fees, provide free transportation of the bodies to their respective upcountry homes, and procure coffins to ensure that the departed innocent kids receive a dignified farewell,” said Sonko.
The former governor also extended his condolences to the families, relatives, and friends of the deceased pupils following the tragic incident.
The incident occured on Monday, October 6, 2025, in the afternoon, after construction debris from a neighboring building site collapsed onto the school compound.
