In a statement on Sunday, July 27, Human Rights Activist and Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid said Mwabili was dropped in a bush in Kinondo, Kwale County.
The activist then walked for 3 kilometers to Diani, where he contacted his family, revealing his whereabouts.
“Mwabili was dropped in a bush in Kinondo, Kwale county, around 3 am, where he walked for about 3 kilometers to Diani. While in Diani, he managed to call his family, who alerted us, and we sent our officers immediately,” said Khalid.
The Vocal Africa CEO also said Mwabili took himself to Diani Police Station, but the officers wanted to detain him.
However, Mwabili was released following intervention from Vocal Africa officers.
“While in Diani, Mwabili voluntarily took himself to the police station, but to everyone’s surprise, the police wanted to detain him. Our officers intervened and he was released,” Khalid stated.
The activist has been rushed to Pandya Hospital in Mombasa for a quick medical check-up, after which he will be flown to Nairobi to reunite with his family.

Mwabili, who has been vocal against church donations, went missing on Wednesday, July 23, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
According to his sister, Issabella Kituri, the activist has been working for the Amani Beach hotel in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.
Following his disappearance, Mwabili’s employer tried reporting him as a missing person to the Tanzanian authorities, but they were told to wait for 24 hours.
“A Kenyan has been abducted in Tanzania. Again. Family has confirmed that Mwabili Mwagodi, who is a Kenyan activist and was vocal against church donations, was abducted in Tanzania on Wednesday.
“It seems Suluhu Samia and her government are working around the clock to target Kenyan activists,” Khalid said on Friday, July 5.
