Missing Nyamira man found dead, buried in his compound
Detectives have exhumed a human body suspected to be that of 67-year-old Meshack Mainye Miyaki, who has been missing for over two weeks
Detectives have exhumed a human body suspected to be that of 67-year-old Meshack Mainye Miyaki, who has been missing for over two weeks since his disappearance in Manga, Nyamira County.
Family members say Mainye was reported missing on October 27, 2025 and his whereabouts remained unknown until they stumbled on a grave within his compound, discovering that their kin had been murdered and buried by unknown people.
“Simu yake ilizima na hakuwa kazini na sasa tukaanza kumtafuta,” said Daniel Nyagwoko, a family member.
His family reported the matter to area police and mounted a search for their missing kin. It was not until Wednesday when his family stumbled on a fresh grave within his compound.
Investigators were called in, and to their shock, unknown people had murdered Meshack and buried his body there without notice.
“Kukwaruza hivi kidogo tukaona mkono, walimzika kama feet mbili hivi, alafu harufu ikatokea na kukaanza kuonekana sehemu zingine za miili tukajua basi ni huyu,” said James Miyaki, brother to Meshack.

Detectives began exhuming the human remains as investigations into the incident commenced.
“Waliotenda tendo hili na mauaji na kuuzika mwili wa Mainye ni jambo ambalo ni mbaya sana na sisi tunaangalia serikali itupatie majibu,” said Wycliffe Omwenga, a friend to the family.
Upon completion of the exhumation exercise, the decomposing human remains were taken to a local facility awaiting further DNA tests and an autopsy.
No arrests have been made in the incident, even as the family blames police for their laxity in probing the matter, which began as a missing person case and has now turned into a homicide investigation.
