Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir accuses DP Gachagua of of empty rhetoric after 4-day ultimatum lapses

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir accuses DP Gachagua of of empty rhetoric after 4-day ultimatum lapses.

In a scathing speech, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir blasted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for the government’s inability to apprehend drug lords in the county.

Speaking on Saturday, the governor questioned why, in spite of Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome’s 4-day ultimatum, the government had not succeeded in apprehending the drug traffickers.

Nassir said that Gachagua was manipulating the locals’ emotions and that the government had the authority to make the arrests.

“We do not have intelligence. Don’t come here and cheat us every time by telling us that you will arrest them. Arrest them. Every time you keep talking about the former regime. You are now in government and you have intelligence, the DCI, and other agencies.

“All you do is teargas protesting doctors instead of arresting the drug barons. Then you can here and say that you have given them a notice. We are tired of decades of notices. We want action as the people of Mombasa,” he stated.

As a result, he challenged the national government to apprehend individuals responsible for the drug trafficking or to defer the matter to the county administration.

Nassir believed that cutting off the supply chain and preventing use would be the most effective ways to combat the drug problem.

“If you won’t do it, we will work with the MCAs to come up with a special team that will deal with this drug menace.

“Arrest them now and parade them so that people can see who they are. Stop lying,” he stated.

The governor was referring to remarks made by Gachagua and other government officials during a stakeholder meeting in Mombasa on Monday.

At the event, Gachagua criticised local leaders for failing to attend the meeting, opining that they were scared of the barons.

“Why are some not here, this is a conversation every elected leader should be part of. Unless you are telling us there is no problem. We cannot win this war without the leaders. We are calling upon them to join us,” the DP stated then.

On the other hand, IG Koome instructed his officers to arrest drug barons within four days.

He also proposed for the use of face masks in court to be revoked, stating that the barons needed to be shamed in public.
