Moses Kuria addresses viral photo with Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga
Moses Kuria has addressed a viral photo of himself with former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga, following accusations by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that Kuria was funding Njenga.
In a statement on Sunday, July 20, Kuria clarified the context of the photo and used the opportunity to fire back at the ex-DP.
“On 11th June 2023, I was leaving an interview at Kameme FM. On my way out I found one Maina Njenga at the reception. He requested for a photo.
“That is the photo that Rigathi Gachagua is now claiming was taken last week. Relax my friend. 2 years ago you were calling all our youths Mungiki. Now you call them Itungati. You are a pathetic liar and hypocrite,” he said.
Kuria and Gachagua have always been at crossroads.
For instance, on Sunday, May 25, Kuria rebuked Gachagua accusing him of employing dictatorial tactics in the Mt. Kenya region.
In a statement, Kuria criticized Gachagua for urging Mt. Kenya musicians who visited Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to apologise for what he termed as ‘betraying the community.’
Gachagua stated that, should the musicians fail to apologise, Kenyans should unfollow them on social media and urged club owners not to invite them to clubs.

“I met elders, and they asked me to announce that we should stop listening to their music; secondly, entertainment joints should cancel them, and if an establishment invites them, let us all boycott the establishments and patronise other joints that comply.
“On social media, we shall unfollow them. They were bribed with KSh 50,000, yet the people they went to have oppressed us. Unfollow them if they don’t apologise, and entertainment joints’ owners should stop inviting them. That is the only way to protect this community,” he announced.
In a rejoinder, Kuria accused Gachagua of deploying ‘dictatorial tendencies’, questioning what would be the next pronouncement from him.
“All Musicians from Mt Kenya not singing praise songs are tukunias and tugeges. Do not listen to their music. Do not invite them to shows. Boycott all entertainment joints that invite them. Unfollow them on Social Media. What next?” he posed.
Additionally, earlier in the year, Kuria, who previously resisted supporting calls for Gachagua’s impeachment, confessed that he ultimately had no choice but to support his ouster when the situation reached a tipping point.
“Unfortunately, the former DP did not do himself a lot of favours, and for me, the time came, even though I said I would not support that impeachment, I was left with zero option,” he remarked.
