Former Gatundu MP Moses Kuria has announced his intention to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

In an update on Sunday, October 12, Kuria pledged to transform the city into a model of cleanliness and efficiency, referencing President William Ruto’s remarks on the state of Nairobi.

“Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart. Like Prime Minister Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi cannot continue to be the city of filth, garbage, and incompetence.

“I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the Governor of the great County of Nairobi in 2027. I will fix Nairobi,” he wrote.

Speaking earlier Sunday, Ruto said he had engaged the Nairobi County leadership, led by Governor Johnson Sakaja, on plans to clean up the city and restore its dignity.

He added that the national government had agreed to collaborate with the Nairobi County Government on the cleanup initiative, noting that the private sector would also be involved to support the transformation efforts.

“Nairobi cannot continue to be a city in filth. We have started cleaning the Nairobi river, and now we are in the final stages of signing an agreement with the private sector on how we are going to clean this city.

“We must not have mud along our roads. This city will have streetlights so that we make sure that Nairobi is clean, becomes motorable, and a city in the light, not in darkness. I have committed that the national government will provide resources,” he said.

Elsewhere, on Saturday, October 11, Kuria gave an indication of gravitating toward former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s camp.

He regarded Gachagua as Mt Kenya’s soon-to-be kingpin, noting that the DCP leader has succeeded in rallying the region behind him.

Kuria stated he could consider joining the former deputy president’s camp in the near future.

“To my brother Rigathi Gachagua. I am an honest man. By now you know that. It is an undeniable fact that the majority of our Mt Kenya people listen to you. You are ahead of the rest of us. You are edging closer to being our undisputed Kingpin in the Mountain. In fact, just like Gideon Moi and William Ruto are working together, I might consider working with you very soon,” he said.
