Moses Kuria hits out at Gachagua over ‘dictatorial’ tactics in Mt Kenya

President William Ruto’s senior adviser on the Council of Economic Advisors, Moses Kuria, has rebuked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of employing dictatorial tactics in the Mt. Kenya region.

In a statement on Sunday, May 25, Moses Kuria criticized Rigathi Gachagua for urging Mt. Kenya musicians who went to see Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at Karen to apologise for what he termed as ‘betraying the community.’

Gachagua stated that, should the musicians fail to apologise, Kenyans should unfollow them on social media and urged club owners not to invite them to clubs.

In a rejoinder, Kuria accused Gachagua of deploying ‘dictatorial tendencies’, questioning what would be the next pronouncement from him.

“All Musicians from Mt Kenya not singing praise songs are tukunias and tugeges. Do not listen to their music. Do not invite them to shows. Boycott all entertainment joints that invite them. Unfollow them on Social Media. What next?” Kuria posed.

Gachagua, while speaking on Sunday at AIPCA Kihoya in Kangema, Murang’a County, said the musicians who visited DP Kindiki betrayed the community by siding with the regime that has supposedly oppressed Kenyans.

The former DP demanded that the artists apologize to the community, and should they fail to do so, the community should stop listening to their music, and entertainment joints should stop inviting them to perform.

“We are saddened that they have betrayed us as a community…I met elders, and they asked me to announce that we should stop listening to their music; secondly, entertainment joints should cancel them, and if an establishment invites them, let us all boycott the establishments and patronise other joints that comply.

“On social media, we shall unfollow them. They were bribed with KSh 50,000, yet the people they went to have oppressed us. Unfollow them if they don’t apologise, and entertainment joints’ owners should stop inviting them. That is the only way to protect this community,” Gachagua announced.

Samidoh, Jose Gatutura, Karangu Muraya, and Ben Githae were among the notable musicians from Mt Kenya who visited DP Kindiki.

Meanwhile, Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has warned entertainment joints against complying with Gachagua’s remarks.

In a statement, Mutua said any joint that will be found targeting the musicians will not be authorized to play music licensed by MCSK.

“Let it be clearly stated that MCSK will not tolerate any form of economic sabotage targeting our members. Any entertainment venue that complies with calls to discriminate against our artists will not be authorized to play music licensed by MCSK,” he stated.
