Moses Kuria to help Raila’s ex-bodyguard Ogeta set up VIP protection firm
Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has announced plans to support Morris Ogeta, a longtime aide and former bodyguard to late opposition leader Raila Odinga, to establish a VIP protection and training company.
Speaking at Ogeta’s Uyoma home in Siaya County, Kuria said the initiative is driven by a desire to help Ogeta transition into entrepreneurship while sharing his professional experience with others.
Kuria described Ogeta as a highly skilled and dedicated professional whose expertise should be institutionalised through a formal business rather than confined to personal assignments.
“I think Morris should impact other people. That is what Baba would have wanted,” Kuria said, referring to Raila.
“If Baba would come back to find Morris serving as bodyguard to a small person like Moses Kuria, Baba would be upset. Nobody that I know deserves Morris Ogeta, not one person.”
He added that it would be inappropriate for Ogeta to return to individual bodyguard roles, arguing that his experience and training should benefit a wider group through structured VIP protection services.
According to him, the idea to venture into VIP protection and training emerged from a mutual understanding rather than external direction.
“I didn’t tell him what to do, I asked him what he wants to do and he told me,” Kuria said, adding that the agreement was for Ogeta to pursue what he loves and is best known for.

The former Cabinet secretary said friends and associates would come together to assist Ogeta in setting up the business, including support for training and operational capacity.
He framed the initiative as a collective effort aimed at professionalising VIP protection and creating opportunities for others to benefit from Ogeta’s skills.
Kuria also offered a detailed account of Ogeta’s role during his years working closely with Odinga, describing him as more than a security aide.
He said Ogeta was deeply involved in Raila’s daily routines and wellbeing, often serving multiple functions beyond personal protection.
“He is loving and loyal. He was everything,” Kuria said. “Has Baba taken medicine, has he done this. He was also Baba’s physiotherapist. His confidant, Personal Assistant, he was many things.”
The remarks underscored the trust and responsibility placed on Ogeta over the years, highlighting his proximity to Raila and the breadth of his duties.
Kuria suggested that such experience positions Ogeta well to mentor others and raise standards within the VIP protection field.
The former CS said the move aligns with what he believes Raila would have wanted for a trusted aide whose contribution extended well beyond conventional security roles.
