A fresh storm has erupted in Kenya’s boxing scene following explosive claims by Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, who has alleged that the Vurugu Boxing Challenge main event was scripted.
The bout, held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Saturday night, saw Portifas “Majembe” Odipo defeat Ferdinand “Mbavu Destroyer” Omondi via unanimous decision after the fight was stopped in the fourth round.
However, Mosiria now claims the outcome had been pre-determined.
In a strongly worded statement, Mosiria accused event organiser Steve Thompson Maghana, popularly known as Oga Obinna, of orchestrating the entire match to control the outcome while deliberately keeping him away.
“The entire boxing match was scripted by Obinna, and that is why they created propaganda to keep me out of it,” Mosiria claimed.
“This was ‘mchezo wa town.’ I knew about it, and that is why I chose not to attend.”
He further alleged that the event was designed to mislead Kenyan fans who had anticipated a genuine contest.
“The entire thing witnessed today is a scheme to con innocent Kenyans who have been waiting to watch real boxing for a long time,” he added.
“Kenyans will be spending money while denying other boxers a chance to compete and grow their talents.”

But Oga Obinna has hit back sharply, dismissing the accusations as baseless and driven by personal grievances.
The media personality claimed Mosiria had unsuccessfully sought tickets to the event and was now seeking attention after being locked out.
“Mosiria, I have seen your video. Sometimes before you blabber, can you stop and think?” Obinna said.
“Tell the people the truth you asked me for tickets and I denied you. You even called me, and I didn’t pick because I know you are a time-waster and a clout chaser.”
Obinna maintained that the fight was legitimate and urged critics to support initiatives aimed at promoting youth talent rather than tearing them down.
“When someone is doing something amazing for society, for the youth, for Kenyans, give credit where it is due,” he said.
“You were not even there. You were watching online like everyone else who didn’t make it.”
