MP candidate loses Ksh1 million while meeting supporters at night
MP candidate in the forthcoming elections robbed Ksh1 million at gunpoint while meeting supporters at night.
In Homa Bay county, the wife of a parliamentary candidate was robbed on Saturday night while being accompanied by the politician’s followers.
Omburo Odaje, a prospective MP from the Rangwe constituency, lost a cool Ksh1 million to four assailants in the event.
The incident happened at a meeting between the politician’s wife and his followers.
The wife of the MP candidate was held at a gunpoint.
She was asked to handover over the bag which had cash or risk being killed.
Odaje who arrived at his home hours later to meet his supporters reported the incident to Rangwe Police Station.
However, no one was injured during the robbery.
“The lady’s phone that was stolen has been switched off. There were many people in that compound, hence we are still gathering information to enable us to get crucial leads to help us apprehend those who committed the crime,” stated Homa Bay County CIO Abed Kavoo as reported by Standard.
Odaje is battling it out with the incumbent Lillian Gogo of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Achuodho Kachuodho of Democratic Alliance Party Kenya (DAP-K), and former area MP George Oner an independent candidate.
In the lead-up to the general election on August 9, he joins a growing list of politicians who have experienced the wrath of robbers and attackers.
