Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has been suspended from Parliament precincts for 20 days following a brief exchange with Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Wednesday, August 13.
Wamuchomba, who was among the MPs in Parliament present to grill Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on the state of security in the country, challenged the CS to account for the whereabouts of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a suspected serial killer believed to have taken the lives of 42 women.
Dissatisfied with the answers Murkomen was giving, Wamuchomba threatened to storm out of the lower house, as she accused the CS of failing to take responsibility for the missing fugitive.
“I have listened to what the Cabinet Secretary has said concerning the cases of the ladies that he confirms were matched with their relatives. But I refuse to sit in this house to listen to the CS confirm that the ministry cannot capture suspects who were previously under their custody,” Wamuchomba said.
She went on, “I’m refusing to listen to any other answer he is giving. It’s not right for the cabinet secretary to come and tell us that the suspect has disappeared. What hope is he promising the victim? Is he telling us that we are going to wait forever? It has been three months since the suspect disappeared.”
True to her words, the irate lawmaker proceeded to walk out of the house just as Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris was presenting her question to Murkomen, in a move which the speaker described as contempt of the house.
“As for the case of Honourable Wamuchomba, in law we call it contempt in the face of the court. And members, you all are witnesses to this.
Under standing orders 107A as read with 1A and 3 and having been prompted by Deputy Majority leader, Honourable Wamuchomba, shall serve a suspension of the house for 20 days excluding the recess days,” Wetang’ula announced.

While serving her suspension, Wamuchomba will effectively be barred from accessing Parliament precincts, including basic facilities such as the restaurants, the gym and so on.
During the grilling session, Wamuchomba sought clarification from Murkomen amid claims that the case involving Collins Jumaisi had stalled after he escaped from custody.
In response, Murkomen confirmed that DNA analysis on body parts recovered from the Kware dumpsite led to the positive identification of five victims, all of whom were women.
But Wamuchomba doubled down on her inquiry as she asked the CS whether investigations were still ongoing since 2024, to which Murkomen confirmed that a special unit was deployed to track down the serial killer.
“The Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) launched an independent inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the escape, and investigations are ongoing. Multi-agency operations are in progress to trace and apprehend the suspect so that he can be charged before a court of law,” Murkomen revealed.
Murkomen also revealed that the National Police Service (NPS) was implementing new policy directives to enhance public safety and improve accountability in handling cases like abductions and extrajudicial killings.
